Minutes of the AGM held at the Hanson Club 25/07/2025

Amended 20/08/25

1. Roll Call

11 Teams were present for Roll Call:- Bay Horse (Catterick Village), Beeswing (East Cowton), Buck Inn (Richmond), Comrades Club (Richmond), Cricket Club (Richmond), Crosskeys (Eppleby), Crown Inn (Brompton On Swale), Hanson Club A (Colburn), Hanson Club B (Colburn), Hanson Club C (Colburn) & Riverside Club (Bedale). Black Bull (Melsonby) had informed the Chairman of their wish to remain in the League, although they were unable to attend the AGM for family reasons,  Castle Tavern (Richmond), JTs Bar (Catterick Garrison) & Hanson Club D (Colburn) applied to join the League. All 3 teams were added to the list of teams, which now comprises 15 teams. At this point, it was proposed that the League would now comprise 2 Divisions, 1st Division to be made up of the Top 8 teams from last year, i.e. Riverside, Comrades, Bay Horse, Hanson B, Cricket Club, Crosskeys, Hanson A & Hanson C. 2nd Division to be made up of the remaining teams from last year, plus the 3 new teams, i.e. Buck Inn, Beeswing, Black Bull, Crown, Castle, JTs & Hanson D.

If another team can be found before 1st September, that would make 2 Divisions of 8,   If not, Division 2 would have a bye each week.

2. The Minutes of the 2024 AGM were then presented.

They were accepted as a true record of that Meeting

3. The Treasurer then presented his Report.

He answered a couple of queries re cost of website and the diminishing quality of Trophies from Aford Awards – both issues would be explored. He proposed that League Subscription Fees remain at £40 per team. All Fees to be paid on or before the Eric Harrison Competition on the 12th September

His proposal was passed. Seconded (Comrades)

4. The Secretary made his report,commenting on successes from the past season, and looking forward to some tricky decisions to be made tonight. One again he thanked the Chairman for all his help

5. There then followed a Review of the Rules. As there been no proposals made for   

Rule Changes, the Meeting moved on to the next Item

6. Election Of Officers

Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer & General Member said they were all happy to be reelected, and were returned to Office unanimously.

7. Secretary’s Honorarium

After due discussion, it was agreed that this would remain unchanged

8. League Membership/Format

Some changes recorded above. It was agreed that a system of 2 up, 2 down would be in  operation between the two Divisions

The Chairman has produced a Fixture Timetable with Competitions, including the  Diamond Jim, to be spread through the Season, rather than at the end of the season. Each team will be given their copy of this Timetable at the Eric Harrison night.

This will be played on the last night of the 1st half of the season at 2 venues; the Final  will be played on Presentation Night

9, Start Of Season

The League Season will start on Friday 26th September. The Pre-Season Eric Harrison will take place on the 19th September

10. Registration Date

A finalised list of Players registered for each team must be returned, on the Form provided, to the Secretary on or before Friday 12th December.  Any team failing to return their List by this deadline will face a deduction of 6 points

11. Any Other Business

Competitions Venues

It was proposed that Teams who fail to support any Competition held at their venue, will  lose the right to being a venue the following Season

It was also proposed that Games should start at 8pm rather than 8:30pm. After lively discussion, it was agreed that the Secretary would clarify the wording of that Rule, so that Games can start anytime after 8pm, but no later than 8:30pm.

The next proposal was to make the Captains Game a Knockout towards the end of the season, This would be for Captains, with the proviso that the Vice Captain would step in, should the Captain be unavailable

The Chairman then proposed a new scheme. He explained the rationale behind it, Its principal purpose is to bring more players to Presentation Night. On Presentation Night, there would be a Cash Draw, with lots of prizes. This cash would be raised throughout the Season, from the Results of all Singles league games. In each of those games, the loser would pay £1 to their Captain, who would keep that money to be banked at some point. All the money raised would go towards the Cash Draw. The Winner of each singles game will get their name on a ticket for the Cash Draw. After a great deal of discussion, this was passed.
